Nintendo’s idyllic life simulation game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, lets you do almost any and everything in order to beautify your island getaway. As a result, you’d assume there was a way for buildings to be rotated. Stick with us as we ask and answer: Can you rotate buildings in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Can buildings be rotated in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
The debut Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch game adds a lot of new features to the series; unfortunately, the ability to rotate buildings isn’t one of them. While it is possible to move buildings in ACNH — except for Resident Services — their rotation cannot be altered. All building must have their front entrance facing the camera and cannot be turned around.

It’s unfortunate, as this small feature could give rise to more realistic and/or creative island layouts. What makes this especially irksome is that furniture items can be rotated freely, regardless of whether they’re in or outdoors. It doesn’t seem like extending this functionality to buildings would’ve been a stretch, but then we aren’t game developers.
One probable cause is pathing, as if you were to hide the entrance to a building from view or even block it with the environment then issues could arise. While the decision was likely for players’ own good, there could’ve been a system preventing inopportune placements. Limiting rotation to 90-degrees left or right could also have worked.
Whether Nintendo will add the ability to rotate buildings to AC: New Horizons remains to be seen. We don’t rate the chances all that highly, but stranger things have happened.
