Mortal Kombat 1 Animalities: Are There Animalities in MK1?

Mortal Kombat 1 Animalities: Can You Perform an Animality Finisher in MK1?

Mortal Kombat 1 Animalities would yield the fighting game a different sense of brutality that the series has not seen in some time. The Mortal Kombat team has not been too keen on these animal-focused finishing moves in recent years, though. Here’s whether Mortal Kombat 1 has Animalities or not.

Does Mortal Kombat 1 have Animalities?

It does not appear as though Mortal Kombat 1 has Animalities. Animalities do not show up in the menus as an option. And while they have been obtuse in the past and required that players tick off certain checkboxes during a match, they don’t seem to be in Mortal Kombat 1 unless they are hidden extremely well. We have reached out to Warner Bros. for confirmation.

However, this does not mean that Animalities are never coming to Mortal Kombat 1. NetherRealm Studio has patched whole finishing move types into past Mortal Kombat games. It added stage Fatalities in Mortal Kombat X and Friendships into Mortal Kombat 11. It is likely that the studio will have some update in the future that implements a whole new type of finishing move.

More Mortal Kombat 1

Series co-creator Ed Boon spoke about other types of finishing moves in regards to Mortal Kombat 1 during a panel before the game’s launch.

“Over the years, Babalities, Friendships, Animalities, all of these kinds of things, with me personally, I like to cover the ones we haven’t done recently, so there’s a little bit of a spoiler in there, there’s certainly a chance we’re going to bring them back, for sure,” said Boon.

Even though Boon did not outright confirm anything, his words imply that the game will have one of these finishers in the future, something backed up by the aforementioned examples in MKX and MK11. And stating that the team liked to cover finishing moves that haven’t been done in recent games makes Animalities a prime target. They haven’t been in a Mortal Kombat game since 1996’s Mortal Kombat Trilogy.

MK1 Animality FAQ

Q: Are Animalities included in Mortal Kombat 1?

A: No, it seems Mortal Kombat 1 doesn’t currently feature Animalities. They aren’t present in the game’s menus and, unless they’re extremely well-hidden, they don’t appear to be a part of the game.

Q: Could Mortal Kombat 1 see the introduction of Animalities in the future?

A: It’s a possibility. NetherRealm Studio has a history of adding new finishing moves to their games post-launch. While it’s not confirmed, Ed Boon, the series co-creator, hinted at bringing back older finishers not recently featured, which suggests that Animalities might be reintroduced given their long absence from the series.

Q: When were Animalities last seen in the Mortal Kombat series?

A: Animalities were last featured in the 1996 release of Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Given the extended period since their last appearance, they’re a likely candidate for reintroduction.
