Umbral Engrams are new to Destiny 2 with the Season of Arrivals, and they work a bit differently than other engrams. By using Umbral Focusing at the Prismatic Recaster, you can influence what type of Umbral Engram you get. Every kind of Umbral Engram has a different pool of gear it can drop, which can be a pain to keep track of.
Below we’ve listed each type of Umbral Engram and what items it has a chance of decrypting into. Now, you don’t have to check all 18 types each time you go to focus one.

How do Umbral Engrams work in Destiny 2?
You’ll likely get an Umbral Engram during the initial Season of Arrivals questline. After you get back to The Tower, you’ll probably skip over to the cryptarch or Tess to check out your new goodies only to find that the Umbral Engram isn’t anywhere to be seen. These new engrams can’t be decrypted by normal means. Instead, you’ll need to pay a visit to the Drifter.
As part of the Season of Arrivals questline, you’ll need to help the Drifter activate his Prismatic Recaster. In exchange, he’ll let you use it to decrypt Umbral Engrams. Instead of a simple decrypt process, these engrams give you some power to influence what they drop. You must visit the Prismatic Recaster when you get an Umbral Engram and choose from a selection of different focuses. Each focus has a different loot table, and as you continue to level up your season pass, you’ll gain access to more types of Umbral Engram.

There are three tiers of Umbral Engrams. You’ll unlock the first as part of the questline that kicks off the Season of Arrivals.

This engram drops Season of Arrivals weapons.

Legacy-Seasons-Focused Umbral Engram
Contains weapons from the past three seasons of Year Three.

- Seventh Seraph VY-7 – Submachine Gun

Dredgen-Focused Umbral Engram
Drops weapons favored by the Drifter.

You must unlock the second tier of Umbral Focusing by reaching level 32 in the season pass.

Improved Armor Focusing: Tier 3 Umbral Engram Gear List
You’ll have to progress through the season pass until rank 72 to unlock Improved Armor Focusing. This tier works differently than the ones above. All six Umbral Engrams produced here will have a chance to drop the same set of gear:

The difference between them is which stat is enhanced.
