There are 12 total things you can craft in The Last of Us 2 by pressing the touchpad to go into your backpack (or by holding a certain button while bringing up the quick select D-pad menu). And you have to do five of them before you finish Seattle Day 3 (which are bolded) and four after Seattle Day 3 (which are italicized). You can do the rest whenever. These craftable items, along with their required materials, are:

  • Health kit (alcohol and rag)
  • Silencer (canister and rag)
  • Melee upgrade (melee weapon, binding, and blade)
  • Molotov (alcohol and rag)
  • Smoke bomb (or stun bomb) (explosive and canister)
  • Trap mine (explosive and canister)
  • Arrow (binding and blade)
  • Explosive arrow (explosive and binding )
  • Pipe bombs (alcohol, canister, and explosive)
  • Incendiary shells (explosive and alcohol)

The above picture spells out what symbols mean what ingredient. These are found throughout the game.

Some of these require you to find some Training Manuals and to eat some supplements first since the crafting recipes are buried in the skill trees. You’ll get some as a part of the story but others, like the stun bomb, you’ll come across out in the world.

For silencers, you’ll need the The Last Round: Survivalist Magazine Training Manual. For explosive arrows, you’ll need the Organic Chemistry: Concepts and Practice Training Manual. For the incendiary rounds and hunting pistol rounds, you’ll need the Bring Your Own Bullets Training Manual. For shivs, you’ll need the David Versus Goliath Training Manual. Some of the upgrades in these trees also make your crafting more efficient, too.
