How to beat the Nioh 2 Uminyudo boss

The Nioh 2 Uminyudo boss is one messy blob and something for those who have conquered the Mysterious Warrior Monk. It’s a giant monster and one that can be a little intense in both of its forms if you’re going about it the wrong way. Here are some tips so you can figure out how to beat the Nioh 2 Uminyudo boss.

Again, like Mysterious Warrior Monk boss, the Nioh 2 boss takes a lot of the basic tips for most fights: pattern recognition, knowing when to Burst Counter when he glows red, being smart about how you manage their Ki and health bars, and using the Yokai Shift (Circle and Triangle) to close out the fight. It is all pretty basic stuff. Generally, you can be pretty aggressive with this boss and keep whacking its face as it often misses if you’re close (in its big form, at least), but it helps to know its attack patterns.

First off, be sure to immediately block when the fight starts. It’ll sometimes immediately spit an anchor at you, which will smack you if you are not expecting it (as you can see in the above picture), or some water balls. It’ll begin to suck in after it spits out the water balls. Just use the Burst Counter on its big face because it is quite a slow attack. One of its other Burst Counter moves is a laser that is very hard to avoid, giving you another reason to stay close to its face.

There’s also a big attack where it’ll slam its big arms down. This is very slow so you can wait until the arms start coming down to dodge laterally. Don’t dodge too early! If you go attack the face, just be a little cautious because it’ll unexpectedly spit an anchor out at you. It kind of lobs out of its mouth so you can have a little bit of time to react.

When it staggers and its face falls on the ship, just wait on it with all you have but stay aware of your Ki gauge. After this happens, it’ll usually take its second smaller form where you have to play a little more defensively. It uses a lot of lightning attacks. Don’t block these. Just stay back and dodge out of their blast radius, which is shown on the ground by little yellow sparks after it draws a symbol in the air. There’s also another lightning attack where it puts its arms in the arm.  This has a wide area of effect so get out of there as soon as it puts its arms up.

The third lightning attack is more of a laser. It starts by shooting down by its “feet” before violently shooting up. Be sure to dodge laterally just as it starts moving its head up. It’s quick so be careful.

Its Burst Counter move is also very slow so be sure to use your Burst Counter after it glows red. Uminyudo will also put its arms up with no elemental effect and slam down quickly in front of it (as you can see in the above picture). Be sure to dodge laterally. This is very quick so be ready.

Going into the Yokai realm doesn’t change the fight much. Just be more vigilant of your Ki and quickly take care of the crabs that show up. They can be an unwelcome distraction if you let them linger. Use your Yokai abilities to quickly dispatch of them.
