Dragon's Dogma 2 Toggle Lock On Targetting Soft Hard

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Toggle Lock: Can You Target Enemies?

A Dragon’s Dogma 2 toggle lock function is stumping a lot of new players. Many similar action-adventure games like The Legend of Zelda and Dark Souls provide the ability to lock on an enemy. This allows players’ strikes and spells to target characters. Without this, battles become much more challenging and you can easily waste stamina missing attacks. Here’s whether or not you can target foes with a hard lock-on in Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Is there a Dragon’s Dogma 2 toggle lock?

No, there is no dedicated toggle lock in Dragon’s Dogma 2. However, there are some attacks that will allow you to lock on enemies to varying degrees. Veterans of the first Dragon’s Dogma will more or less be used to how targeting works in this sequel.

For instance, if you choose the Magick Archer class (after you unlock it), you can target specific points of an enemy before firing arrows. For particularly large creatures, you can aim across their body to target multiple sections. This will then have arrows automatically home on those areas when they are loosed. This is particularly useful if these areas are weak points that can lead to a boss becoming staggered or vulnerable. Some spells that you can use as a Mage or Sorcerer can be aimed as well. It is worth noting that it takes some practice to get the timing down.

Otherwise, the majority of skills and attacks in the game don’t have a lock of any kind. There’s a slight soft-lock when guarding as a fighter if there’s an enemy who is close enough, but for the most part you need to point your character in the right direction to make sure your attacks land. This can make combat particularly difficult for melee fighters, so martial skills that sweep enemies in a range are easier to use.

That said, if you own the PC version of Dragon’s Dogma 2, it’s possible that a mod will be available in the future that makes adjustments to targeting or adds a hard lock-on system. We don’t think the game really needs one, but it may help with specific play styles.
