Are there Far Cry VR PSVR and PC VR versions? The September 2020 Ubisoft Forward event featured several exciting reveals, including Far Cry VR. Excitement turned to confusion when people realized the game wasn’t actually a remake of Far Cry 3 in virtual reality, but a standalone Far Cry “experience” based in VR. So, will Far Cry VR be playable on PlayStation VR and PC VR headsets like the Rift, Vive, and Index? Here’s what you need to know.
Are Far Cry VR PSVR and PC VR versions coming out?
At the time of writing, there are no known plans to release Far Cry VR PS4 and PC versions. Unfortunately, that means there’s no Far Cry VR PSVR and PC VR release date to mark on your calendar.
Far Cry VR: Dive into Insanity is a “free-roam virtual reality experience” that’s coming exclusively to Zero Latency VR arcades. Zero Latency is developing the game in collaboration with Ubisoft, which indicates that it most likely won’t reach other platfroms. Additionally, Ubisoft is no stranger to this practice with VR escape room Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time also skipping over a home release.
The lack of a home VR version has understandably ruffled a few Far Cry fans’ feathers. The top comment on the Far Cry VR debut trailer uploaded to the Zero Latency VR YouTube channel sums up the general response pretty well:
“Wait, it is not for SteamVR? Millions of users won’t be able to play it at homes with online multiplayer?”
Unfortunately, no. No they will not.
Is Far Cry VR coming to PSVR, Oculus Rift/Quest, HTC Vive, and Valve Index?
- No, Far Cry VR is not coming to PSVR or PC VR.
- Far Cry VR is an arcade experience available exclusively in Zero Latency VR locations.
- It’s unikely that Far Cry VR will get a home release in the future, as Zero Latency is co-developing and likely co-funding the project.
