How to get Oboroguruma to release Amrita in Nioh 2 Darkness in the Capital

Knowing how to get Oboroguruma to release Amrita in the Nioh 2 Darkness in the Capital DLC is a good way to earn the “Behind the Bamboo Blinds” trophy. You can do it by chance, but if you’re going to do it 10 times, you should know what to do first. The Oboroguruma is one of the new enemies that is a demonic head inside of a carriage, as you can see in the above picture. So what do you need to do in order to get them to peek out of their carriages and release Amrita?

The Oboroguruma shows up quite frequently in the Darkness in the Capital DLC. They are tough enemies that can sometimes be hiding as a carriage. But they will sometimes implode and you’ll see a glowing yellow crystal come out instead of a freakish head. This is what you need for the trophy.

Getting them to release Amrita doesn’t seem tied to their Ki. Sometimes they will do it with more than enough Ki.

However, it seems tied to damage and where you hit them. It appears as though they release Amrita when you damage the head part. Damaging the carriage doesn’t seem to work so aim for the head. Burst Counters are good (which you can read more about here) for doing damage to the head as is hitting the straight on. Attacking from the sides means you’re more likely hit the carriage. Do it 10 times and you will get the trophy.

Essentially, to get the Oboroguruma to release Amrita, you need to:

  • Attack the heads
  • Try to avoid attacking the carriage
  • Use Burst Counter when possible

There are enough Oborogurumas in the DLC to negate the need for farming. But many of them are somewhat near Shrines so you can farm them if you want. There is one right in the very beginning of the Insatiable Bloodlust side mission.
