Fortnite VR | How to play on Quest, Vive, Index, and PSVR

Fortnite VR seems like the next evolution stage for the hit battle royale game. While amassing millions of players, the free-to-play title has gone through many changes, enjoying collaborations with huge companies like Marvel, while also implementing new technologies like ray-tracing and Nvidia DLSS. For some, the obvious next step would be a VR update, allowing players to enjoy the Battle Royale mode in virtual reality. Here’s how to play Fortnite in VR in 2020.

How to play Fortnite in VR

There are now many mainstream VR headsets on the market, supporting many different exclusive games and experiences. The main four are the Oculus Quest (and Quest 2), the PSVR for PS4, the HTC Vive, and the Valve Index. Here’s a breakdown of how to play Fortnite VR on each platform.

Fortnite VR on Oculus Quest

It’s possible to play Fortnite in VR on Oculus Quest by sideloading the Android version of the game. Combine that with a Bluetooth controller and it’s a big-screen Fortnite virtual reality experience.

Those with a powerful-enough gaming PC can use the Virtual Desktop app to stream the Fortnite PC gameplay to the Oculus Quest, which allows for an infinitely massive screen.

Population: One is a VR battle royale title that has many similarities to Fortnite, allowing players to climb, fly, and build. What’s more, it’s officially supported by the Oculus Quest.

Fortnite VR on PSVR

Playing Fortnite VR on PSVR is as simple as going into the system’s Cinema Mode and booting the game up from the PS4 screen. Fortnite will then be playable in a big-screen theatre.

Rec Room for PSVR has its own “Rec Royale” mode which mimics many of Fortnite‘s qualities. Like Fortnite, it’s a free-to-play game.

Fortnite VR on HTC Vive

Playing Fortnite VR on HTC Vive requires a capable gaming PC combined with the Virtual Desktop app. Users need to boot up the PC version of Fortnite within the Virtual Desktop app.

Alternatively, Stand Out: VR Battle Royale has many Fortnite qualities, including the ability to kill, build, drive, do parkour, fly, and more. Population: One is also well-rated for VR battle royale.

Fortnite VR on Valve Index

Virtual Desktop also works with the Valve Index, meaning users can play the official Fortnite PC version of the game inside VR. Simply load up Virtual Desktop on the Valve Index and then boot up Fortnite.

The Valve Index also has access to an assortment of Fortnite-esque games on the Steam Store. The main highlight is Population: One which is getting a lot of attention right now.

For those who haven’t yet heard the good news: it looks like Arena Duos is returning to Fortnite. Get the full story here.

The latest Fortnite patch made some stability fixes which will be especially helpful for mobile users. Another Fortnite update brought in Halloween content and dataminers uncovered secret skins.
