How to cancel PlayStation Plus subscription

Services like PlayStation Plus are a great way to get the most out of your Sony console. In addition to online play, PS Plus grants access to new games each month. However, there are times when players will eventually grow tired of new games, or perhaps even sell their old consoles. To avoid incurring further charges, you’ll want to know how to cancel your PlayStation Plus subscription. Thankfully, the process is simple.

How to cancel PlayStation Plus

You can cancel your PlayStation Plus subscription online, over the phone, or through the PlayStation console itself. Canceling from the PS4 or PS3 is the easiest option, since it allows you to modify your existing subscriptions or services quickly.

Here’s how to cancel your PlayStation Plus subscription from a PlayStation 4:

  1. From the PS4 main screen, scroll up, then open the Settings menu
  2. Choose Account Management, then Account Information, then select PlayStation Subscriptions
  3. Select the option for PlayStation Plus
  4. At the bottom of the screen, select Turn Off Auto-Renew to cancel your subscription

The process is almost exactly identical on PS3. The only difference is that you need to scroll to the left of the XMB menu to find the Settings option.

In case you change your mind, you can re-enable your subscription by choosing the Turn On Auto-Renew option. This will make sure there is no lapse in your PS+ service.

What happens when you cancel PlayStation Plus?

When you cancel your PlayStation Plus subscription, your PS+ benefits won’t immediately end. Since you’ve already paid for the service, you’ll be able to continue downloading and playing games through the expiration date listed on the Subscriptions page.

However, when your PS Plus subscription does eventually expire, you will no longer be able to play any games you’ve downloaded through the service. Even if a game is still installed onto your console’s hard drive, the license to play it will be revoked. The only way to play it again is to either purchase the game outright or renew your PS+ subscription. Keep that in mind before canceling.

If you don’t have access to a console, you can manage your subscriptions either online or by phone. North American players can reach PlayStation customer support by calling 1-800-345-7669. More contact details for players outside the United States can be found at the PlayStation contact website. To cancel online, simply head to the PlayStation account management website.
