Can you use PS5 DualSense with Android or iOS?

The PlayStation 5 includes a radical new controller called the DualSense. It’s a pretty stark departure from previous DualShock controllers, with adjusted ergonomics and a suite of high-end features. It’s clearly the intended way to enjoy PS5 games, but does it work on mobile devices? In particular, can you use the PS5 DualSense controller with Android or iOS?

Does the PS5 DualSense work on Android or iOS?

Does the PS5 DualSense work on Android or iOS?

The PlayStation 5 DualSense is compatible with both Android and iOS. The DualSense controller works with Android out of the box, connecting and syncing without issue. However, it doesn’t appear to sync with the latest version of iOS yet, despite being technically compatible.

Of course, there are some other considerations to keep in mind. Mainly, neither iOS nor Android are capable of taking advantage of all of the DualSense’s features natively. According to early reports, the PS5 controller’s rumble function apparently doesn’t work with Android without using additional software. It’s safe to say the same will be true for its motion control support, new adaptive triggers, and the central touchpad.

Otherwise, the DualSense should work as expected. It can pair through a USB-C cable or over Bluetooth, since it’s running with the latest Bluetooth version 5.1. On Android, it functions the same as any Bluetooth controller with native apps, games, and even Xbox Game Streaming.

The controller is also compatible with any device that can run PS Remote Play, Sony’s mobile-oriented game streaming software. The app was updated in October to include support for the PlayStation 5. The update specifically added the ability to create button assignments for the PS5 controller. Best of all, when using PS Remote Play, the app will support motion controls as well as the touchpad.

So yes, the PS5 DualSense controller works on iOS and Android. Specific compatibility will depend on the version of the mobile operating system itself as well as the specific software you’re trying to run. Otherwise, it works the same as any USB-tethered or Bluetooth game controller would.
