Like most early tech adopters, Xbox Series X|S owners are encountering issues during the launch window. One of the most annoying problems impacts headphones users, as there’s a glitch that causes audio to cut out completely. Since this can occur pretty often, many are wondering what causes audio cutouts on the new next-gen Xbox consoles and how to solve the issue. Xbox Series X|S Headset Audio Keeps Cutting Out | How to fix

Xbox Series X|S headset audio keeps cutting out

Playing with a headset is the best way to fully appreciate a game’s soundscape. Not only that, but it also allows users to chat with friends and even gain an advantage in online multiplayer sessions. Unfortunately, this Xbox Series X|S loss of audio bug can pair with the third-party headset adapter issue to make wearing headphones more trouble than it’s worth. Luckily, however, there is a simple solution.

Xbox Series X|S headset audio can cut out if the controller is left idle for more than 10 seconds. To fix broken headset audio on Xbox Series X|S, simply resume pressing buttons and/or using the thumbsticks. To prevent the issue from reoccurring, continuously use the gamepad while the headset is in use. If that’s an inconvenience, using an Xbox One controller on Xbox Series X|S will also resolve the issue.

Seemingly, Xbox Series X|S headset audio cuts only occur with wireless sets of cans. Where possible, switching to a wired connection may also help.

Microsoft is aware of the Xbox Series X|S wireless headset audio glitch and ” looking to resolve the issue in a future update” at the time of writing. Unfortunately, there’s “no ETA” on when exactly it’ll land.

Until then, why not check out some other handy Xbox Series X|S guides? Here’s how to improve frame-rates on the new Xbox consoles, plus how to fix DVDs and Blu-Rays not playing on Series X.
