Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Fidelity, Performance, or Performance RT differences

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is a gorgeous game, though the quality of its visuals depends on which performance mode players choose. Insomniac Games’ latest features a choice between Fidelity, Performance, or Performance RT graphics modes from day one. But, which is the best visual and gameplay setting to choose? Here’s the lowdown on the Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart graphics mode differences to help users decide.

Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart Fidelity, Performance, or Performance RT

Here’s how the Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Fidelity, Performance, and Performance RT graphics modes differ:

Fidelity mode

In Fidelity mode, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart targets 30 FPS with ray-tracing enabled at native 4K resolution.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart features a dynamic base resolution and a temporal injection process; this ensures that the image always upscales to 4K, even when the native base drops during busy moments.

Performance mode

The Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Performance mode disables ray-tracing to target 60 FPS with a dynamic base resolution of up to 4K.

Although the base resolution is natively lower than in Fidelity mode, making it noticeably less sharp, the temporal injection process still results in an upscaled 4K image.

Performance RT mode

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s Performance RT option runs at 60 FPS with ray-tracing on, plus a dynamic base resolution that upscales to 4K.

Performance RT mode is somewhat the best of both worlds. It runs at twice the Fidelity mode frame-rate, though keeps the impressive ray-traced lighting and reflections. As a trade-off, the native base resolution is the lowest of all the available graphics settings (though still upscales to 4K).

Opting for Fidelity, Performance, or Performance RT mode is ultimately a matter of preference. Players looking to appreciate the visual horsepower of the PS5 should choose the Fidelity option. Those seeking a smoother gameplay experience, however, will want to select Performance or Performance RT mode.
