Mario Golf: Super Rush: What unlockable playable characters are there?

Mario Golf: Super Rush is out, letting players play a few rounds with the likes of Mario, Luigi, and other popular Nintendo characters. But are there unlockable characters in Mario Golf: Super Rush, or are you stuck with the starting line-up? And if there are, then how do you unlock new characters?

Can you unlock new characters in Mario Golf: Super Rush?

There are 17 characters available to play as in Mario Golf: Super Rush, including your Mii characters, all of which are available right out of the gate. However, unlike previous Mario sports games, there are no unlockable new characters so far. Nintendo is saving these new additions for future updates, with it confirming that new characters and courses will be added as free DLC.

While 17 characters is an ample number of golfers to start with, one of the appeals of these games is steadily unlocking new characters to compete with. However, it seems that Nintendo has instead decided to offer players a wide range of golfers to choose from immediately, with the rest being added later down the line. It’s unclear how many playable characters will eventually be added to Mario Golf: Super Rush, with Nintendo having yet to reveal the extent of its plans for the game.

Still, there are a few obvious additions to Mario Golf: Super Rush given characters introduced in its Adventure Mode. Both Birdo and Toadette appear in the early stages of the game’s story mode, though aren’t playable in-game. This makes them likely candidates for future DLC.
