Marvel’s What If: Who is the Steve Rogers voice actor?

The latest Marvel show, What If? arrived on Disney Plus today, introducing a range of new scenarios into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first episode deals with what would happen if Peggy Carter took the super-soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers. Unsurprisingly, we get to see quite a lot of the plucky Brooklyn kid, commonly played in the MCU by Chris Evans. You might notice, however, that his voice is quite different here. We’ve got the lowdown on who voices Steve Rogers (a.k.a. Captain America in Marvel’s What If.

Who voices Steve Rogers in Marvel’s What If?

Steve Rogers

Marvel’s What If? doesn’t feature Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, with this version of not-so-Captain America being voiced by Josh Keaton. You might recognize his work as Revolver Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid 3.

While many of the characters in What If? are voiced by their big-screen counterparts, Chris Evans didn’t come back to voice Steve Rogers on this occasion. This shouldn’t come as a surprise though, as his contract with Marvel ended with 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Since then, he hasn’t appeared in any MCU-related media — and sadly What If? isn’t an exception to that.

However, Keaton’s work is solid here, and to the untrained ear, you could easily mistake it for Chris Evans. We know for certain that Captain America will be appearing more in What If?, in the much-anticipated Marvel Zombies episode. Don’t be surprised if Chris Evans is absent in that one too.

In this episode of What If?, Steve Rogers’ role is very different from what we see in Captain America: The First Avenger. Rather than taking the super serum, he’s injured at the last minute. He’s then relegated to a supporting role while Peggy Carter becomes Captain Carter. He also gets the chance to don the C-15 Hydra Stomper armor, in one of the episode’s most exhilarating moments.
