Will Dead Space Remake have microtransactions or be a live service?

The upcoming Dead Space remake has fans both excited and nervous. Yes, it’ll be nice to start ripping apart Necromorphs again, but what about the series’ less-popular features? Does the Dead Space remake have microtransactions? Or does Motive Studios intend to launch Isaac Clarke’s latest adventure as a live service game?

Does the Dead Space Remake have microtransactions?

Does the Dead Space Remake have microtransactions?

No, the Dead Space Remake will not have microtransactions. The developers at Motive Studios have confirmed that the new version of Dead Space will not feature any sort of microtransactions, nor will it be a live service game.

Since fans had been questioning the inclusion of microtransactions, the developers themselves decided to set the record straight. The topic was brought up during the recent Dead Space development stream, where Senior Producer Philippe Ducharme gave a clear answer: “No microtransactions. None at all.” Creative Director Roman Campos-Oriola added “We don’t have [those] in the remake.”

Series followers may recall that microtransactions first appeared in Dead Space 3. The system allowed players to buy currency to quickly gather crafting materials for weapons. Naturally, many players felt the in-game drop rate for those materials was lowered in order to entice them to spend real-world cash. The response wasn’t very pretty, and it’s often attributed to the fall of the series.

Does it follow the games as service model?

Beyond getting nickel-and-dimed, many players also loathe the idea of games as live services. Those types will be happy to learn that the Dead Space remake will not be an evolving project. Instead, it means to follow the spirit of the original game, which released in 2008 without any sort of online or multiplayer component.

The news is good: Motive Studios’ Dead Space remake will not have microtransactions, nor is it a live service game. The entire gib-soaked journey will be open to all players who purchase the game. Of course, you will have to purchase it, as there’s likely no free upgrade option for previous owners.
