Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition is available for pre-order as part of the upcoming 10th generation Kindle line-up. Given how confusing Kindle naming conventions are, fans are confused about what features separate it from the regular Paperwhite. Since this is the first major update for the product since 2018, it has us wondering if the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition is worth buying or not.
Is the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition worth buying over the regular Kindle Paperwhite?
The new design of the Kindle Paperwhite increases the screen size to 6.8 inches and increases the front light sources to 17 LEDs. It also gets the adjustable warm light, and auto-adjusting light sensors found on the Kindle Oasis and changes over to USB-C for charging and data connection. Both the base Kindle Paperwhite and the Signature Edition include these features.

The main differences between the $139 Kindle Paperwhite 10th Generation and the $189 Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition are that the latter comes 32GB standard and wireless charging. So, those that plan to keep their on-device library small and don’t care to use wireless charging won’t find the extra features worth another $50.
Those that have a Kindle Oasis also don’t have much of a reason to switch. The Oasis has a slightly larger screen, more LEDs for its front lights, and a thinner design. The only advantage the base model of the Kindle Paperwhite has over the Oasis is that it has a USB-C port instead of Micro USB. The wireless charging on the Signature Edition doesn’t make an upgrade to that device too enticing either.
The only reason the Signature Edition would be worth the extra money over the base Kindle Paperwhite or worth switching from the Kindle Oasis is if someone really wanted wireless charging. Otherwise, users are best off sticking with the Kindle Oasis if they already have one or going with the cheaper version of the 10th gen Paperwhite.
