Battlefield 2042 ‘Can’t Stop Shooting’ auto fire bug fix

Is there a fix for the Battlefield 2042 ‘Can’t Stop Shooting’ bug? The first public open beta for the latest game in the Battlefield series has gone live today, but players have been reporting an unusual Battlefield 2042 auto-fire bug — which basically makes them start a match and be unable to stop firing constantly. The question is, though, is there a fix for this Battlefield 2042 beta “shooting without pressing a button” issue?

How to fix the Battlefield 2042 ‘can’t stop shooting’ bug

To fix the auto-fire bug in the Battlefield 2042 beta:

  • Unplug or disable any controllers that may be connected and play with mouse and keyboard.
  • Go to the game’s menu and choose Settings/key bindings/soldier. Scroll down until reaching the control for ‘Fire,’ which has buttons assigned for mouse, keyboard, and controller. Delete the keyboard and controller binds by selecting the boxes for those controls and holding ‘Esc’ on the keyboard.
  • If the controller is the preferred method of playing, repeat the steps above and delete the mouse and keyboard controls instead.

These steps can also help if the player is having a similar issue with sprinting all the time without pressing a button — simply repeat the steps for ‘Sprint’ instead of ‘Fire.’ The issue is caused by the extra key binds messing up the system and will hopefully be fixed properly in the final version of Battlefield 2042.

Please be advised, however, that this fix doesn’t work for everyone as certain mouse types can be counted as a controller and leave the player unable to delete one of the bindings. If this becomes the case, then the player will have to wait for an official fix.

For more help on Battlefield 2042, here’s what to do if beta players are unable to connect to EA’s servers. It sounds a lot like Battlefield Portal will be a lot of fun, but hopefully any issues or improvements won’t mean the game is delayed yet again.
