Facebook is getting a new name and the internet is buzzing with excitement over the potential combinations of words it will adopt. While the reason for the name change hasn’t been made explicitly clear, it’s widely believed that the shift in moniker will help the company move away from the negative connotations that “Facebook” has attracted.

Facebook’s new name is Facey McBookface.
No, obviously that’s not the case. That name is based on a meme from 2016 where the British public voted to name a new polar research ship “Boaty McBoatface.”
Joke names like the above have been popping up all over social media sites. While waiting for the official name reveal, users have come up with a bunch of hilarious alternatives:

In fact, it’s tough to find any actually serious responses to the news. It looks like the Facebook execs will have to think for themselves on the big name change.
With its name changed, Facebook will better integrate into the “metaverse” of apps that include Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, and more. At present, Facebook stands out alone, so users can expect the new name to be less conspicuous.
This post will be updated once Facebook’s new name is confirmed. Perhaps it will be as simple as “WebFace” or “MyBook,” or perhaps it will be something totally crazy. Time will tell!
