Dark Souls III How To Trade In Boss Souls For Special Items

Every boss in Dark Souls 3 drops a Boss Soul. As with previous Souls games, these Boss Souls can be traded to an NPC for special items. These special items range from powerful weapons to magic and rings. The question is, how do you trade in the Boss Soul for an item?

To trade in your Boss Soul, first you will need a Transposing Kiln. This is an item dropped off Curse-Rotted Greatwood, an optional boss located halfway through Undead Settlement. Due to the location of the boss, you will not be able to trade in your first two or so Boss Souls, and will be forced to wait until you have progressed far enough.

Once you have a Transposing Kiln, head to Firelink Shrine. If you look upward, you should notice a set of five thrones, one of which is inhabited by a man with a crown. This man is Ludleth of Courland, and he will be the person you need to talk to whenever you want to trade in a Boss Soul using a process called Soul Transposition. To get to him, simply walk up the stairs on either side, and drop down behind his throne.

Ludleth of Courland will require a Boss Soul and sometimes extra souls for one of two item choices. If you find that a particular Boss Soul doesn't grant an item that you're interested in, you have the option of consuming the Boss Soul for a large sum of regular souls. Note that the items granted from Ludleth of Courland are unique, and can't be found anywhere else.
