Elden Ring How to Beat Margit Boss Fight

Elden Ring: How to beat Margit the Fell Omen Boss Fight

Margit the Fell Omen is the first real boss most players will encounter in Elden Ring. After exploring the open world a bit, players will likely feel comfortable, but Margit will immediately destroy that. This boss fight is classic Souls, and one wrong move can spell defeat for players.

Fortunately, Margit has several weaknesses that can be exploited. Additionally, players can call on kindred spirits to run interference. With the proper preparation, beating Margit in Elden Ring isn’t as daunting as it might seem.

How to beat Margit in Elden Ring

There’s a multitude of ways to beat Margit in Elden Ring. Especially skilled players don’t need any summons or special items to do so. However, we’re going to go with an approach that should work for nearly everyone. First, though, we’ll need to grab a few things.

Preparations

There are a few items that players can grab to make the fight with Margit a lot easier:

  • Summoning Bell and Lone Wolf Ashes: Obtained by talking to Renna at the Chruch of Elleh after obtaining the Spectral Stead Whistle.
  • Margit’s Shackle: Can be purchased from Patches’ secret shop for 5,000 Runes.
  • Short Bow (if players don’t have a ranged weapon): This can be purchased from the merchant under the ruins on the beach southwest of the Church of Elleh.

Once players have acquired these items, they can try to take down Margit. All three should be equipped and ready to go before players enter the boss arena.

First Phase

Elden Ring Margit Phase 1

Before heading into the fight:

  1. Activate Sorcerer Rogier’s Summon Sign outside of the door.
  2. Select the Lone Wolf Ashes, and summon them as soon as possible.
  3. Select Margit’s Shackle, but don’t use it yet.

Margit sometimes likes to open the fight by throwing his golden daggers, so be ready to sidestep them.

Once the wolves and Rogier reach Margit, he’ll aggro on them and leave the player pretty much alone. Approach him and trigger Margit’s Shackle to bind him to the ground temporarily. While he’s bound, players should hit him with their most powerful physical attacks. Ideally, by the time he shakes off the shackles, players should be able to break his stance and leave him open to a Critical Hit (which is performed exactly like a backstab).

Once Margit recovers, he’ll do a wide swing that covers almost a 360 arc around him, so be prepared to dodge it. Then, trigger Margit’s Shackle again is repeat the above. When Margit recovers a second time, he’ll most likely have taken enough damage to trigger his second phase.

Second Phase

Elden Ring Margit Phase 2

Margit gets a little sprier during his second phase and starts slamming around with his golden hammer. The player’s summoned buddies are probably starting to take critical damage by this point. This is where the fight really begins since players are going to quickly lose NPC allies to draw Margit’s aggro. In the meantime, players should take advantage of Margit’s distraction by hitting him with their most powerful ranged attacks. Ideally, the player hitting him should draw him off the NPCs, and then the NPCs will attack him before he can concentrate fully on the player. This should stretch the NPCs’ lives a little longer and allow the player to whittle Margit’s health away.

Unfortunately, Margit will likely still have 1/4 to 1/3 of his health left when the NPCs die. At this point, the primary attack to avoid will be his hammer slam. It covers a large area and does a lot of damage. Otherwise, players should hit him with ranged attacks when they can, but be wary of his thrown daggers at long range. Eventually, it’ll likely end up in a close-range tangle. Margit can punch through small and medium shields, so players should focus on dodging as their primary defensive move.

If players find they still can’t beat Margit after following the above strategy, they should explore the open world some more. Margit is the same strength no matter when players face him, so they can level up, obtain more gear, and come back for another chance to take him down.
