World of Warcraft Classic Wrath of the Lich King Expansion Release date

World of Warcraft Classic: Wrath of the Lich King Release Date Window

Predictably, the next stop for World of Warcraft Classic will be the release of the Wrath of the Lich King. We have a release date window for the upcoming WoW Classic expansion, which comes roughly 14 years after its original launch and three years after Classic premiered.

When is Wrath of the Lich King coming to WoW Classic?

The release date for Wrath of the Lich King in World of Warcraft Classic will fall somewhere in 2022. The Burning Crusade was released a scant year ago, so Blizzard is moving WoW Classic forward at a relatively rapid pace.

One notable change between the original version of Wrath of the Lich King is that Blizzard won’t add the Dungeon Finder tool. WoW Classic head Brian Birmingham gave this reason behind that decision to IGN:

“We know that the Classic audience is more interested in long-term social engagement, that feeling that comes from reaching out to people, talking to them about how you’re going to group, trying to coordinate, who’s going to do what role walking to the dungeon together, trying to figure out how you’re going to get to the dungeon, who’s going to summon, maybe run into a PVP fight on the way, and then you finally get in there and you have friends that stick together with you.”

In Wrath of the Lich King, players have to take on Arthas the Lich King, who threatens both the Horde and Alliance. The objective in this expansion is to push into the Lich King’s tower of Icecrown Citadel and kill him. It also adds Death Knight and increases the level cap to 80.

Other than the lack of a Dungeon Finder, there are few other changes in WoW Classic Wrath of the Lich King. Unfortunately, those who progressed to The Burning Crusade won’t get the chance to choose to stay behind this time. All Burning Crusade players have to advance to the (not-so-new) expansion.
