Fantasy fans have a lot to get excited about, with the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power right around the corner. Taking place thousands of years before the events of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit, the Amazon Prime Video series will delve into J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, during its Second Age. Moving from a relative time of peace into utter chaos, it’s sure to be a must-watch. Here’s when you can watch the first two episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video.

What is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power release date and time?

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will make its debut on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service with a double episode drop at 9 p.m. ET on September 1, 2022. For the week following and those that come after, new episodes will drop at 12 a.m. ET until the season 1 finale. Here is the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premiere release time and date for different time zones:

  • 6 p.m. PT (September 1)
  • 9 p.m. ET (September 1)
  • 2 a.m. BST (September 2)
  • 3 a.m. CEST (September 2)
  • 10 a.m. JST (September 2)

Season 1 will be made up of eight episodes, with Amazon Studios previously confirming that they are hoping the series will run for five seasons at the very least. Filming for season 2 is set to begin in October 2022, taking place in the United Kingdom after production for season 1 took place in New Zealand, mirroring the original film trilogy.

Not much is known about the specific stories that will be told in The Rings of Power, but we do know that some familiar characters such as Galadriel and Elrond will be making an appearance, although with different actors taking on the roles. Characters new to on-screen adaptation will also be introduced for the first time.
