Atomic Heart Update Size

Atomic Heart Update Size: Why Are the Patches So Huge?

The ridiculous Atomic Heart update size has been frustrating players, mainly on Xbox and PC versions of the latest game from Mundfish. Not only have players needed to download and install Atomic Heart which is about 80 GB, but then they needed to download an update that’s around 50 GB, and then yet another update that’s about 70 GB. That’s a lot of time spent waiting around just to play a game on day one.

Why is the Atomic Heart update almost 70 GB?

While the first day one update likely fixed minor bugs, an additional 70 GB update on Xbox and PC via Microsoft Store might actually be due to a Japanese localization issue.

Earlier on February 21 at around 4:00am PT, Mundfish sent an official statement on Twitter (posted above) that Japanese localization was not available on Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles. The update to add this wasn’t uploaded in time due to “technical reasons,” but it was planned later in the day.

This is likely why players have had to download huge patches and updates at game launch, regardless of whether they pre-loaded the game or not. And unfortunately, Mundfish couldn’t release a small patch to fix this, essentially needing players to re-download the entire game again.

Mundfish has also revealed in a separate tweet that it will be adding FoV settings to Atomic Heart in a future update, despite suggesting that the game doesn’t need a FOV slider because it was already wide. Concerns that the game might be banned in Ukraine and other countries have mounted as well in the past week.
