Sons of the Forest Drying Rack Preserve Meat

Sons of the Forest Drying Rack: How to Prevent Meat From Rotting

You can use a drying rack in Sons of the Forest to preserve food. You’ll quickly notice that even cooked food spoils rapidly in the game. So, if you want to eat something besides MREs and breakfast cereal, you need a way to keep it from turning rotten. However, just like in real life, it takes a while to dry food, and we’ll describe the process below.

How to dry food with a drying rack in Sons of the Forest

You can build a drying rack at any point in Sons of the Forest (usually best after you build a base), but you might wonder what it dries. The drying rack is used to prevent food from rotting within a day or so of obtaining it. Since you don’t have access to a refrigerator, you’ve got to do things the old way, which means drying out your meat to prevent it from going rancid.

To preserve food with the drying rack:

  1. Collect 13 sticks.
  2. Use your guidebook to select pre-made structures.
  3. You’ll find the drying rack under “storage.”
  4. Confirm where you want to build it.
  5. Use the sticks to complete the drying rack.
  6. Obtain meat from any source (human, fish, animals)
  7. Place it on the drying rack to start the process.

The meat takes about ten minutes to dry in Sons of the Forest. After that, it should keep for around 8-9 in-game days before rotting, significantly longer than raw or cooked meat last.
