Wobkey Rainy 75 Keyboard Review

The Wobkey Rainy 75 is a pre-built keyboard aiming to deliver a custom-like experience without breaking the bank. With an impressive spec sheet setting the bar high, how does the Rainy fare during real-world testing? Here is my review.

Generous unboxing

The unboxing experience is great, with a case provided alongside other accessories. In a world where companies keep removing extras from product boxes, it’s good to see Wobkey offering more than expected. 

As with other Wobkey releases that use CNC-machined aluminium, the weight is immediately noticeable. The Rainy 75 feels like quality and looks great with an excellent finish. 

The strongest of starts

The great initial impressions extend to getting the keyboard connected and powered on for the first time. With wired, Bluetooth, and 2.4 GHz wireless, users can connect in all manner of ways. Then, when connection has been achieved, customization is easy using QMK/VIA, meaning no additional app to install.

Superb tuning

Below the surface of the Rainy 75’s double-shot PBT keycaps are: first, the switches, with a range of linears available; and second, layers of foam and other materials to help optimize sound and typing feel. In combination, they work very well.

The typing experience is truly excellent. It’s amazing just how high-quality pre-built keyboards have become, and for not too much money. 

Note: It’s heavy

The main downside of the Rainy 75 is something that, due to its build, can’t really be avoided. The weight of this keyboard means its portability is severely limited. If you’re aiming to take this keyboard to and from work in your backpack, or use it in school while connected to your laptop, you may want to go with something lighter.
