Will there be a new Modern Warfare 2 campaign and story added?
While there is no planned new Modern Warfare 2 campaign and story, the Call of Duty plot is being pushed forward within Warzone 2.
With each new season of Warzone 2, events develop that push the story forward, introducing new characters and conflicts. As seen with Warzone 1, it’s possible that the events taking place in Warzone 2 will have an impact on the expected Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 reboot and potentially a Warzone 3.
When booting up one of the modern Call of Duty games, it can be confusing to suddenly see a cutscene. For those not caught up on the events happening within Warzone 2, it can be easy to think that the cutscene is teasing new Modern Warfare 2 story content, but that isn’t the case.
While rumors were pointing at there being no Call of Duty release for this year, with Activision choosing to instead expand on Modern Warfare 2, it now seems that this plan has changed and a traditional new Call of Duty game will indeed be launching in 2023. Expect to see a new campaign then.
