Who is Margrace in Final Fantasy 16?

Most Final Fantasy 16 players will quickly pick up that Margrace is Joshua Rosfield. While Clive believes Joshua died during the Night of Flames at Phoenix Gate, that’s not the case. Joshua survives and begins his own adventure, seeking out the cause of the blight and the mystery behind his brother’s ability to absorb Eikonic powers from others.

Clive’s ironic pursuit of Margrace comes to a head when he is forced to confront the fact that it’s he who is the Dominant of Ifrit. He then realizes that he must have been the one that killed Joshua. Fortunately, he doesn’t have to live with that guilt long, as he discovers that Joshua survived during the party’s assault on Drake’s Head in the Holy Kingdom of Sanbreque.

At the midway point of Final Fantasy 16, Margrace reveals himself as Joshua and comes to Clive’s aid. After the fight with Typhon, Ultima attempts to merge itself with Clive, but Joshua traps it within a cage made of the Phoenix’s flames and seals it within his own heart. Afterward, he disappears but remains a pivotal player in the events occurring in Valisthea.

Reeling from this revelation, Clive must reconcile with his misconceptions and confront the complex truth. As Margrace, Joshua isn’t a villain but a hero trying to share the same burden his brother faces. He becomes instrumental in the struggle against the chaos consuming Valisthea, shaping the world’s fate while restoring the brotherly bond that once united him with Clive.
