A persistent Diablo 4 memory leak issue is reportedly causing stuttering and frame rate drops in the game. Users on Reddit and the official Diablo 4 forums state that the game has issues using a lot of VRAM, especially when the texture settings on either high or ultra. Even if you lower the graphics settings, this VRAM leak will continue to occur, usually leading to stutters a few hours into a game session. Fortunately, there is more than one temporary fix that you can use to prevent the Diablo 4 memory leak from interrupting your game.
How to fix Diablo 4 memory leak
Here are some ways to fix the VRAM memory leak:
- Switch between texture settings – Head to the in-game graphics settings and switch the texture settings to anything else and then back. This will force the VRAM to clear, so that you continue your session without interruption.
- Reset your graphics driver – By hitting CTRL + Shift + Windows Key + B, you will reload your graphics drivers (so long as this shortcut is supported by the driver). The game will pause for several seconds as the driver resets, and it may make your screen go black for a bit.
- Reset the game – If you still have issues with high VRAM usage, you can fully restart the game. By this, we mean leaving the game and quitting out of Battle.net on PC.
To be specific, Diablo 4 may not technically have a memory leak. Based on this user, the game just has issues loading VRAM when it comes to textures and various assets. It could be more about poor memory management than an outright memory leak. But either way, the result is the same.
We hope that Blizzard is able to address this technical issue with time in a future update or patch. Out of all the bugs and glitches, this one is relatively severe, so it should be near the top of the priority list for Blizzard to handle.
