Threads Following Only

Threads Following Only Timeline: Is There a Following Feed?

One big feature Threads lacks is the ability to access a following-only feed. Instead, you’re greeted with a cacophony of posts with few ways to filter through them. Most users aren’t particularly interested in being slammed with random posts, so being able to see content on Threads from accounts you’re following only is important to the longevity of the service.

Can you set Threads to following only?

There’s no way to limit your Threads timeline to following only. Meta stated that functionality will be added in the future, but there’s no ETA.

Fortunately, there’s a workaround that at least filters your notifications to people you follow on Threads.

Here’s how to change your Threads to send notifications for accounts following only:

  1. Open the Threads app.
  2. Tap on the profile icon on the lower right part of the screen.
  3. Press the menu button on the upper right of the screen.
  4. Choose “Notifications.”
  5. Select “Threads and replies.”
  6. Change all the options on this screen to “From people you follow.”
More Threads

While it doesn’t set your timeline to following only, this ensures you’re not bombarded with notifications from accounts you don’t care about.

This solution, while imperfect, is a helpful stopgap until the much-needed ‘following only’ feature is implemented. Even though it doesn’t customize your main feed, managing notifications will streamline your interaction with the Threads app, enhancing the user experience by reducing unnecessary distractions.

It’s worth noting the urgency for Meta to address this limitation. Users demand a more personalized, less cluttered digital space, so tailoring content to their specific preferences is crucial. By implementing a ‘following only’ feed, Meta can further increase user engagement and satisfaction, as users would interact with more curated, relevant content.

In the meantime, this workaround offers users a modicum of control over their Threads experience. It’s a temporary relief, awaiting Meta’s more permanent, user-friendly solution. So, keep an eye out for updates, and hopefully, Meta will soon provide the long-awaited ‘following only’ feature.
