Remnant 2 How to Beat Bloat King Solo

Remnant 2: How to Beat the Bloat King Solo

Beating the Bloat King in Remnant 2 solo can be tricky. There’s a chance this might be your first boss, and it can be overwhelming if you’re playing alone. However, if you fight with discipline and memorize its attack patterns, it’s not as difficult as it seems at first glance.

How to beat the Bloat King in Remnant 2 single-player

If you’re going through the campaign in Remnant 2 solo, then the Bloat King is a terrible first boss. Odds are, you won’t have the firepower needed to make this a quick fight, so you’ll need to settle in and whittle down its health.

It’s easy to see that this fight is designed around a party, as there’s a lot to keep track of for one person. Remembering the bosses’ attack cycle is the key to a successful fight:

  • The Bloat King starts by clinging to the wall.
  • After taking some damage, it’ll send out a Bloated Bubble (it sends two from the second cycle onward).
  • The Bloated Bubble will fire energy blasts at you until you cause enough damage to it.
  • Once you cause enough damage to a Bloated Bubble, its outer shell will break, and you can cause critical damage with every hit.
  • The Bloated Bubble will fly back to the Bloat King and be reabsorbed.
  • The Bloat King will then perform three attacks, which are randomly chosen from these two:
    • Bloat Beam: This large beam will continually drain your health as long as you’re caught in it.
    • Bloat Laser: This attack instantly travels across the arena to hit you.
  • After the third attack, the cycle starts over.

Making things more difficult is that it’s easy to fall into the canals that run through the room. These are filled with slimes that can easily overwhelm you if you don’t quickly climb back up. If you fall, keep an eye on your minimap for the location of the ladders, which will help you escape.

Fortunately, the Bloat King’s attacks are relatively easy to avoid:

  • Bloated Bubble: Walk to either side while attacking to avoid the small blasts. Watch for the Electro Orbs it spawns, and be ready to focus fire on them.
  • Bloat Beam: Listen for the audio cue to know when this attack is coming. The Bloat King has to charge it; you can hear when it’s about to be fired. Right before it happens, start rolling to one side.
  • Bloat Laser: The same tactic from above is valid here. You’ll be able to tell when the last is charged from the audio. Then, you need to dodge just before it’s fired.

If you face this boss early, your archetype and loadout don’t matter that much. For example, I faced it as a Handler, and your poor dog is worthless here. He’ll almost immediately fall into the canals and be accosted by goop monsters. As much as you want to, don’t follow him into the water and try to rescue him. The abundance of slimes makes the canals much more lethal than the Bloat King.

If you continue having issues taking down this boss, try to enhance your abilities in Ward 13. In particular, the Hot Shot weapons mod is an excellent way to boost your damage. Just wait to pop it until the Bloated Bubbles are on the field.

Also, if you run low on ammo, watch for caches falling from the ceiling. These will bust open on the platforms but might require jumping across gaps to get to them.

Remnant 2 Bloated King Reward

For beating the Bloat King in Remnant 2, you get Bone Sap. You can take this material to McCabe in Ward 13. In exchange, she’ll give you the Voltaic Rondure mod, which allows a weapon to launch a slow-moving electric orb that pulses every 0.5 seconds, dealing 20 shock damage to enemies within three meters, and applies the overloaded status. It’s an excellent mod, especially early in the game.
