Baldur's Gate 3 BG3 Dark Mind Jar Item Uses

Baldur’s Gate 3 Dark Mind: Does This Jar Item Have Any Uses?

The Baldur’s Gate 3 Dark Mind, along with the Slave Mind, is an item that is found early in the game on the mind flayer nautiloid ship. But many players are wondering what this brain in a jar is supposed to do and whether the Dark Mind item has any actual uses, beyond just throwing it. Ever since Early Access, people have been saving these Mind items in their inventory and camp storage, hoping that that they might have some function. Fortunately, they actually do have a use in Act 2. Here’s how and where to use the Dark Mind in BG3.

What are the uses of the Baldur’s Gate 3 Dark Mind?

The Dark Mind can be used on the Mind Archive Interface found in the Necrotic Laboratory in the Oubliette location of the Moonrise Towers in Act 2.

You will need to make sure that both the Dark Mind and the Slave Mind jar items are in your inventory before you head to the Necrotic Laboratory. You will not be able to set up camp while there, so you’ll need them beforehand. Most likely, you’ll need to grab them from your storage chest back at camp.

Once you’re at the Necrotic Laboratory at around coordinates X 695, Y -115 on the map, you’ll find the Mind Archive Interface. This device will allow you to take a Mind item, such as the True Mind, Fresh Mind, and Waking Mind that you can find around the Laboratory as well, and place it in the Slack-Skinned Head. This will reveal the final thoughts of the brain inside before death.

We won’t spoil exactly what happens when you use the Dark Mind on the device, but you will learn some secret lore in the form of a song. You will also learn the thoughts of the Slave Mind if you place it on the interface.
