Mortal Kombat 1 Friendships: Are Friendships in MK1?

Mortal Kombat 1 Friendships would let players end fights with a loving gesture instead of a brutal dismemberment. But it’s rare for Mortal Kombat games to have the same finishing moves in back-to-back entries. Here’s whether Mortal Kombat 1 has Friendships or not.

Does Mortal Kombat 1 have Friendships?

It does not seem like Mortal Kombat 1 currently has Friendships. There is no option in the menu to perform them, and there are no hints that they hidden somewhere. They have taken unique button combinations in the past and made players clear certain criteria, but unless they are very, very well hidden, Friendships are likely not in Mortal Kombat. We have reached out to Warner Bros. for confirmation.

But this does not mean that Friendships aren’t ever coming to Mortal Kombat 1. NetherRealm Studio has patched whole finishing move types into past Mortal Kombat titles. It added stage Fatalities in Mortal Kombat X and Friendships into Mortal Kombat 11. It is likely that the studio will have some update in the future that implements a whole new type of finishing move.

More Mortal Kombat 1

Series co-creator Ed Boon spoke about other types of finishing moves in regards to Mortal Kombat 1 during a panel before the game’s launch.

“Over the years, Babalities, Friendships, Animalities, all of these kinds of things, with me personally, I like to cover the ones we haven’t done recently, so there’s a little bit of a spoiler in there, there’s certainly a chance we’re going to bring them back, for sure,” said Boon.

Seeing as though he said he wanted to implement ones that players have not seen in a while, it’s unlikely that Friendships will make the cut since they were just in Mortal Kombat 11. This does open the door for Animalities and Babalities to make a reappearance, though.

MK1 Friendship Finishers FAQ

Q: Are Friendships available as finishing moves in Mortal Kombat 1?

A: No, it doesn’t appear that Mortal Kombat 1 currently features Friendships as finishing moves. There is no visible option in the game’s menu, and there aren’t any evident signs of them being hidden.

Q: Could Friendships be introduced in Mortal Kombat 1 in the future?

A: It’s possible. NetherRealm Studio has a history of adding finishing moves post-launch to their Mortal Kombat games, as they did with Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11. Ed Boon, the series co-creator, has hinted at the possibility of bringing back some older finishers, but it’s not confirmed if Friendships will be among them.

Q: Were Friendships recently featured in any other Mortal Kombat titles?

A: Yes, Friendships were included in Mortal Kombat 11. Considering Ed Boon’s comments about wanting to reintroduce finishers that haven’t been seen recently, it might be less likely for Friendships to return in Mortal Kombat 1 since they were just in the previous game.
