Microsoft Dulls the Once Shiny Xbox 360

At E3 2010, Microsoft debuted the new, "less prone to RROD" Xbox 360 S console with a glossy, shining finish and a slender, curvy body, making their ugly grey consoles a thing of the past. But it will shine no more! Microsoft looks to take the shine out of your Xbox 360 by making all 360s moving forward with a matte finish. The only way you'll be able to get a glossy 360 moving forward is if you buy a Limited Edition console, said Microsoft's Major Nelson:

Of course, we still may offer a gloss finish on Limited Edition consoles like the upcoming Gears of War 3 console or the Star Wars console, but if you have your eye on a glossy black console you don't have much time left.

The glossy finish of the previous 360 S matched Kinect's exterior, but the matte finish will better go with the black 360 controller's finish.

Microsoft is likely doing this to save a few bucks and turn that into profit. Remember, the same was done when Sony slimmed down the PS3. For some reason, glossy finished plastic is more costly than matte plastic.

Does anyone really care about what the plastic on their console looks like? If you do, do you prefer glossy or matte?
