Mortal Kombat X Coming to Mobile Devices

The release of the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat X is just over a month away, and now Warner Bros. Interactive and NetherRealm Studios have announced a free-to-play mobile version of the upcoming fighting game.

The reveal trailer above gives a brief visual history of the series before showing off gameplay of the iOS/Android release. According to NetherRealm, the mobile version, also titled Mortal Kombat X, is "fueled by next-gen technology."

Ed Boon, creative director at NetherRealm, discussed the development of Mortal Kombat X for mobile devices.

“NetherRealm Studios has created a Mortal Kombat X mobile experience that allows more players than ever before to play this over-the-top fighting game through their ever-present smartphones, tablets or other devices,” he said. “What’s more, we’ve expanded the unique cross-connectivity feature that links the mobile and console versions of Mortal Kombat X, delivering unique rewards to all players for simply playing the mobile game.”

As Boon mentions, the mobile version of Mortal Kombat X will unlock content on the console/PC versions, and vice versa. Cross-platform unlocks require a WB Play account.

Warner Bros. and NetherRealm plan to release the mobile version of Mortal Kombat X right alongside the console/PC versions in April.
