Japanese Retailers Phasing out the Xbox 360?

Retailers in Japan are beginning to cut the Xbox 360 from their storefronts and have started to put remaining stock in bargain bins to flush leftover inventory quickly, a new report says.

The new report comes from Edge Magazine:

The slump in sales has caused many Japanese videogame retailers to contemplate dropping the Xbox 360 altogether. Geo, the nation's largest specialist retailer, is drastically scaling back its Xbox 360 business, and staff at electronics retailer Yamada Denki in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, confirmed that the company is removing hardware and software from the majority of its stores nationwide, and is selling off its remaining stock at a heavy discount.

Despite its dominance in the US, the Xbox 360 has struggled in Japan since it was released in 2005. Week over week, the Xbox 360 barely manages to sell as much as one tenth of the PlayStation 3.
