Final Fantasy VII Remake Gets Q4 2016 Release Date At Retailers, Xbox One and PS4 Pre-Orders Available

When Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy VII Remake at E3 2015, many were under the assumption that it would be eons before it'd be playable. After all, there's been no indication that any phases of development had been completed prior to the announcement. However, there is some hope in sight for those who want to play it within a reasonable amount of time.

Final Fantasy VII Remake has been posted as available for pre-order at Amazon and EBGames. Much more surprisingly, both retailers have it listed with an estimated release date of December 31st, 2016.

This 2016 date is clearly a placeholder, but shows some significance. The year associated with placeholder dates has been accurate more often than not in situations similar to this, and when a game is posted across several sites around the same time usually the publisher is responsible.

EBGames in particular has both PS4 and Xbox One versions posted, which lines up with the multiplatform yet "PlayStation first" nature of the game. Many consumers have been wondering how long the PS4 will have timed exclusivity, but Square Enix has been tightlipped regarding the situation.

There is currently no official box art, only various placeholder graphics. Little is known about the game other than the fact that it is in production at same level, and that the original game will be adjusted in a few ways to bring it up to today's standards. Many interpret this as it transitioning from its classic turn-based battle system to one that is action-oriented.
