XCOM 2 Release Date Delayed to February 2016

2K has announced that XCOM 2 will hit PC on February 5th, 2016. This places it just days before Battleborn and Mirror's Edge Catalyst, further strengthening 2016's Q1 line-up.

This release date announcement confirms that the title has been delayed from its previous expected release window of Fall 2015. In response, developer Firaxis Games posted the following explanation on its blog:

We want to give you an update on the release date for XCOM 2. We’ve set a high bar for the sequel and the entire team has been working hard to make sure we deliver a great follow-up to Enemy Unknown. We just need a little more time to make it the best possible game.

As demonstrated at E3 2015, XCOM 2 is taking several steps to one-up its award-winning predecessor. For one, its presentation will be enhanced greatly with better camera work and effects. Enemies will also be more varied, increasing the variables for strategy during combat scenarios. The new enemy designs are more prone to aggressive play, a move that Firaxis Games believes will quell the prominence of defensive, cover centric play.

To help visualize the changes that Firaxis Games is making to the series, it posted a 50 minute video to YouTube rich with gameplay footage. Check it out below:
