This Is the Nintendo Switch, Formerly Known As Nintendo NX

After several years of rumors, Nintendo has finally announced its next-generation gaming device. Officially called the Nintendo Switch, it's exactly what we were expecting: a hybrid home console and handheld device.

The device was announced in a three minute trailer, which can be seen above.

The Nintendo Switch is unlike anything we've seen before. The hardware is built into a small screen, which can be placed in a dock to enter console mode, or connected to the two-piece controller for handheld mode.

The purpose of the design is to merge Nintendo's console and handheld ecosystems, allowing the company to focus its efforts on a single platform. This will pay off for consumers by resulting in more games to play, as well as being able to play the device's best games at home or on the go.

The Nintendo Switch will arrive in 2017.
