Microsoft Rumored to Be Prepping Xbox Cloud for All Platforms

We're moving toward an all-digital future and Microsoft wants to monopolize it. Smart move, really.

A new rumor suggests that Microsoft is planning to rival OnLive, Steam, and PlayStation all in one fell swoop. According to a report from Electronic Theatre, Microsoft is preparing to roll-out a streaming version of Xbox LIVE across all platforms, by using the "cloud" in a way that all platforms are in unison. The goal here is to allow users to play from their Xbox, then should they feel necessary, switch to their Windows 8 PC, then again to their tablet or Windows Phone.

This all sounds feasible. Microsoft recently announced cloud storage for the Xbox 360 and may be testing the waters for such a service. 

Sony already has cloud storage for the PlayStation 3, which will eventually be used in conjunction with the PlayStation Vita and theoretically with Android-based mobile phones via PlayStation Suite.

It's becoming more evident that traditional home consoles are going extinct, and these streaming, cloud-based platforms are the future of video game delivery.
