Modern Warfare 3 Banks $1 Billion

Activision was quite pleased to announce this morning that Modern Warfare 3 has reached the super mega milestone of "one beeellion dollars" in sales. Seriously, it's next to impossible to say one billion dollars without sounding like Dr. Evil.

The publisher gathered their information from both retailer data and the UK's Chart-Track service. Activision reached this rare sales figure within 16 days of the game's launch, which has brought some sales comparisons to Hollywood. Namely, Modern Warfare 3's sales have beaten out James Cameron's Avatar, which took 19 days to accumulate this amount in sales.

Now, do we believe that Modern Warfare 3 will beat Avatar's overall record of $2 billion worldwide? Doubtful. With the Christmas shopping rush coming to a close and 2012 promising lots of triple-A games in the first quarter, future sales of Activision's shooter will most likely drop off.

However, if you count DLC map packs as part of Modern Warfare 3's sales, then we may see another milestone of Avatar's beaten.
