Best Downloadable Game 2011

Bastion

Platform(s): Xbox 360 (Xbox LIVE Arcade), PC, Google Chrome

Publisher: Warner Bros.

Developer: Supergiant Games

Even during the abnormally fantastic Summer of Arcade lineup, one game stood out as a particularly transcendent title with a spirit of artistry not typically seen in the downloadable space. Coming from the relatively unknown Supergiant Games, you couldn't have predicted how well Bastion pulled off third-person hacking or stylish presentation.

While you're playing Bastion, there's a point where the knowledge that it's a downloadable title slowly fades away and you discover yourself as involved and invested with the characters and the world as any other game. Maybe it's the excellent narration, deep gameplay, or incredible art direction that meant gamers had a cool way to escape indoors this summer.
