Notable Games of 2011: Batman: Arkham City

Some developers excel at surprising gamers while others create new worlds for players to explore. Some manage to cram their personality and creativity into every corner of a world and others create games that are fun to play in every aspect. Rocksteady is all of these things and no game is more exemplary of this than Batman: Arkham City.

Gamers have been surprised twice now by the quality of Rocksteady's Batman titles. Arkham City was an astoundingly dense world to explore, crammed with Rocksteady's flair and love for Batman culture. Even traversal in Batman's open-world became a delightful gameplay standard superhero games can only aspire to. As an achievement, Batman: Arkham City stands high above many games this year and certainly sits atop the piles of licensed schlock we've come to expect from superhero games. Bravo Rocksteady, bravo.
