Crytek Will Bring A Bag Of Graphical Tricks For Crysis 3

If you want to talk about graphical eye-candy, almost nobody does it better than Crysis. With that said, Crysis 2 was quite reserved and let down a lot of PC gamers who expected benchmark-quality results. New details from the team at Crytek suggest that Crysis 3 won't be holding back.

Tiago Sousa, graphics programmer at Crytek, has some great news for those who love their visuals as realistic as possible. He posted on Twitter stating:

For C3 fans asking about AA: PC will have our new SMAA with all modes (T2x on consoles )+ Nvidia new TXAA + all MSAA modes +something new 🙂

MSAA stands for Multisample Anti-Aliasing and has been a standard for a while now, although Crysis 2 didn't support it. SMAA is a proprietary anti-aliasing design programmed in-house by Crytek, and T2x is a variant for consoles which they have been experimenting with. TXAA, on the other hand, is a brand-new technology included with newer Nvidia Kepler-based cards. As far as "something new" goes, Tiago mentioned that it has something to do with DX11, but can't say more.

The jist of this is that Crytek appears to be trying to make Crysis 3 a graphical juggernaut like the original Crysis was by offering several AA modes, a couple of which are break-through technologies. For console owners it's difficult to tell what this will entail, but for PC gamers it brings a flash of hope rich with potential.

Crysis 3 is currently scheduled for a release in Spring 2013.
