Rare Reportedly Developing New IPs For Next-Gen Xbox, New FPS Likely

The story of Rare has got to be one of the greatest developer tragedies of all time. The beloved studio responsible for Nintendo classics like Donkey Kong Country and Goldeneye has now become a first party developer for Microsoft that shovels out crappy family friendly content like Kinect Sports. The talented developer of yesteryear is no more, and all of us retro Rare fans just need to move on… right?

Wait! Maybe there is still hope! Yeah, I know you've been burned before, but let's just give them one more chance, okay? Just one more.

Another job listing spotted by Superannuation, indicates that Rare is currently looking for a senior product manager to join the team to work on "multiple AAA future console releases." The posting goes on to say that while the studio isn't ditching the Kinect Sports franchise, they'll be adding a number of new properties to their to do list, including something potentially in the first-person shooter genre. "You will have a successful history of releasing exceptional AAA games and these will ideally be in the Action/Adventure or FPS genre but this is not essential."

Not only that, but apparently this work will be centered around next-gen technology, which in the case of Rare is synonymous with the Xbox 720. "Whilst continual development of their core releases will be maintained, the successful candidate will be joining at a time where the studio is looking to move into new areas and develop new IPs for future platforms," the listing adds.
