Nintendo Talks Digital Strategy, Specific Details Coming Soon

David Yarnton, Nintendo's UK boss recently discussed the future of the company's plans for digital content. The industry is moving toward a digital-heavy future and Nintendo is finally ready to jump aboard the train. In an interview with MCV, Yarnton confessed that the company has neglected the promotion of digital content in the past, but that is going to change.

“One of the things we perhaps haven’t been so good at is telling you about the features we have. For example the downloadable games and other DLC – but we have been promoting it," he said. “One of our big successes has been Pullblox. It has done incredibly well, and is such good value, and is so much fun – but not enough people know about it. It’s not there on the shopfloor. But it is there, and we have a lot of games like that. We need to do more about educating people about that.”

Yarnton also brought up the fact that the growth of the digital market “hasn’t eaten into retail in the way many predicted.” As such, the company plans to pursue a future where "there is room for packaged goods as well as digital,” pointing out that "some people want downloadable content for its convenience, some people like having a games collection."

Nintendo plans to provide specific details to retailers on their plan for digital games in the near future.
