Path of Exile: Fall of Oriath Is Struggling to Meet Demand, Queues and Server Issues Rampant at Launch

You might not have seen any big releases on the calendar this week, but there certainly have been major updates for important games. Yesterday, it was PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds‘ turn. Today, it’s Path of Exile.

Path of Exile: Fall of Oriath debuted today. While this isn’t necessarily a game commonly spoken about in the mainstream, it’s remarkably popular. For example, its subreddit is the top trender of today, and it’s accounting for a wealth of discussion on forums where players are discussing builds and gameplay.

Players new and old and been spurred to play the game today, invoking temporary overpopulation. Players are reporting lengthy queues with over 10,000 players, server errors, and more. In addition, the official website is down for maintenance, making access to the account management page impossible.

There’s a good chance that some of these issues are due to DDoS, but that has yet to be confirmed by developer Grinding Gear Games.

Path of Exile: Fall of Oriath is the largest expansion for the game to-date, adding six new acts, Pantheon, new leagues, hundreds of items, in addition to balance changes that help to equalize the metagame.

Path of Exile will make its Xbox One debut later this month, at which point it will have to host many more players than ever before. Hopefully Grinding Gear Games can make improvements by then.
