Metal Gear Solid 4 Trophies Will Not Require A New Save File

A Metal Gear Solid 4 trophy patch is gearing up to roll out next week and it's reason enough to go back and enjoy one of this generation's highest-rated games. But what about the people who have already achieved the title of Big Boss?

During this week's KojiPro Podcast #165, Sean Eyestone—ain't that one hell of a last name—confirmed that a new save file will not have to be created to unlock Metal Gear Solid 4 trophies. His exact words were:

Just want to say that’s not true. So your save data will still remain. You can download your trophy patch. You don’t have to worry about that. The only thing is that you have to replay the game in order to get the trophies. The trophies aren’t going to be applied based on your old save data. That’s the only thing we want to stress. So you have to start over to get new trophies but you will still have your old save data there.

It's unclear how this will work for people with saves that have all iPod tracks, weapon purchases, and similar collections completed, but it's good to know that you won't have to wipe all of your unlockables to build up your new library of trophies to show off to the world.

As far as the other trophies are concerned, you'll just have to start up a game and take them out one at a time. There are no trophies for beating the game on a certain difficulty, or anything else grandiose. They're very particular so if you're looking to get a platinum you're going to want to go in with a gameplan.

The Metal Gear Solid 4 trophy patch is scheduled to release in North America and Europe on August 6th or August 7th. If you'd like to check out the full list of available trophies click here.
