THQ Cancels Guillermo del Toro’s Insane Mid-Production

Today's THQ investor call was very ordinary, and that's not necessarily a good thing. The publisher has been the king of bad news for months now, and today it only got worse.

Guillermo del Toro's Insane has been completely canceled. THQ's President Jason Rubin broke the news by stating the following:

We have decided not to pursue further pre-production on Insane, and have returned all of our IP rights to Guillermo del Toro…

Insane was announced almost two years ago at the Spike Video Game Awards and was scheduled to release next year making this a tragic loss for THQ.

The worst part about all of this was Insane was being developed by Volition, Inc. and was supposed to be an ambitious survival-horror game. The genre hasn't been particularly competitive this generation so Insane could have been a fantastic opportunity for THQ to make an impact with a new IP.

Guillermo del Toro sounded very excited to work on the project when it was first announced, and its premise was compelling. However, unless he can find a new publisher to fund his project then chances are we'll never see his vision to fruition.
