Steam Will Start Selling Non-Gaming Software On September 5th

Gamers are undoubtedly quite familiar with the greatness that is Steam, Valve's cloud-sharing market and community for PC games. It's been extremely successful in its run, so much so that several other companies, such as EA, have done their best to duplicate it. Since Steam has been so successful with selling PC games, Valve is ready to expand to regular software on Steam. In fact, it will do so on September 5th.

According to Valve's press release, this first round of software titles range from creativity to productivity. All software titles will allow users to save their work to their personal Steam cloud, so all of your information will travel wherever you go. And that my friends, alone, is why this will do so incredibly well. I'm already seeing the advantage businesses can have by investing in Steam for its productivity software purchases.

"The 40 million gamers frequenting Steam are interested in more than playing games," said Mark Richardson at Valve. "They have told us they would like to have more of their software on Steam, so this expansion is in response to those customer requests."

And of course, the definite additional income will be nice as well, eh?
